A growing set of remote sensing training materials are being developed and archived by the CBC. These materials are a good resource for self-study and to train others in the use of remote sensing techniques. Our overarching goal is to make these data and tools accessible so just about anyone can use them to learn more about the Earth around them at a local or global scale.
Tutorials
Tutorials using open source software are provided as well as the required data. These tutorials will be used to illustrate many of the concepts discussed in the guides posted on this site. All of the tutorials run on open source software that can be freely downloaded on the Internet. Currently we only have this one tutorial. Here is a list of planned tutorials that we are working on:
- On-screen digitizing
- Scaling up from field photos to satellite images
- Image exploration
- Image projections
- Land cover classification
- Land cover change classification
CBC Presentations
This section contains presentations that were given by CBC staff. These are available as Microsoft PowerPoint files. To download a file, click on the "Download" link just below the presentation abstract. The size of each file is listed in kilobytes [KB].
Workshop Material
Materials from CBC sponsored training are available for download.
Quick-start Guides
This section contains short guides to provide simple to follow instructions for using popular commercial software and for understanding basic remote sensing concepts. Each of these guides are available as low and high resolution PDF files. Those of you with a slow internet connection may want to download the low resolution versions. The quick-start guides are grouped into four themes:

Other Training Opportunities
In addition to the links on this page many collages, universities, and government agencies offer remote sensing courses and workshops. Software companies also frequently offer training courses with a focus on using their software. For more information about these courses contact the software company to see what they have to offer. If you are aware of remote sensing training opportunities in addition to those listed on this site please contact us with the information.
